Bathroom Vanity

Your bathroom vanity will generally do the heavy lifting when it comes to bathroom storage.

Including a variety of storage within your bathroom vanity, like drawers, cupboards and shelves, will allow you to organise bathroom products so they are organised and easier to keep tidy and accessible. If a bathroom vanity is one of the only viable storage options for your space, opting for a Bench Mount or Countertop basin which sits on top of the bathroom vanity, will maximise the storage space inside, compared to an under-mount basin which is installed within the vanity itself.

Z+S Tip • Plan power points so they are installed inside the vanity - to allow bathroom appliances like hair dryers and electric toothbrushes to be stored plugged in and ready for use, hidden inside the vanity.

Bathroom Benchtop

When maximising storage in your bathroom, an often overlooked but vital consideration is benchtop space! Even if you keep your benchtop clutter-free when not in use, ensuring there’s ample surface area to rest toiletries and items when the bathroom is in use is vital for functionality. Make sure to also factor in how many people will utilise the space and if they’ll need to use the benchtop simultaneously, such as to get ready in the mornings.

Z+S Tip • Utilising trays to store hand soap and daily essentials will help keep items looking neat, tidy and stylish on your benchtop.

Mirrored Cabinets

Mirrored cabinets are an absolute #pocketrocket when it comes to bathroom storage! They take up very little space in your bathroom and can be recessed into a wall to maximise smaller spaces. But best of all, mirror cabinets are perfect for storing items within hand reach and at eye level, making them super-functional for high-use items and high on the must-list for Z+S bathrooms!

Any opening mirrored cabinet door should ideally be integrated into the side of a fixed mirror panel, so it can remain open while the fixed mirror is in use. Ensuring there’s ample lighting in your mirror will also maximise its use. You can customise the perfect backlit mirror for your bathroom with our Backlit Mirror DIY Step-By-Step Design Guide.

Bathroom Bin

Anyone that’s familiar with our design style will know that integrated storage solutions are always high on our agenda… especially when it comes to practical solutions like bathroom bins! And just like you do in your kitchen cabinetry, it’s super easy to integrate a bin in your bathroom vanity to provide practical and easy storage for bathroom waste. This small storage solution packs a punch, plus makes it easy to keep your bathroom space tidy and clutter-free, avoiding the eyesore of an overflowing wastebasket on the bathroom floor.

Floating Shelf

If you’re in need of more storage in your bathroom, consider using the height of your walls to your advantage by installing a floating shelf, just like we’ve done here in our Classic Coastal Ensuite. Using the space above your vanity is a great way to maximise storage in your bathroom, and store extra towels, personal products and even styling items like indoor plant pots.

Z + S Tip • Use the same or similar material as your vanity cupboards for a consistent, custom look and to create balance aesthetically.

Wall Hooks

In any bathroom design, smaller details such as wall hooks add valuable hanging space to maximise functionality and your use of the space. Including stylish wall hooks that match tapware, towel rails and accessories, provides the perfect spot for storing extra towels and robes, so that everything has its place and can be kept at hand - and off the floor!

Full-Height Storage

If you have the space, adding full-height cupboards is an excellent way to really maximise your bathroom storage and allows you to keep larger items like fresh towels always at hand. Integrating a walk-in wardrobe in your bathroom can also provide the perfect space-saving layout for a smaller home or footprint where a stand-alone walk-in wardrobe isn’t viable. Just be sure to also include ample ventilation and a heat or drying source to avoid dampness build-up.

In our Beach House Bathroom, we installed an exhaust fan, heated flooring and heated towel rails to keep humidity at bay. You can customise any bathroom full-height storage to suit your needs and include solutions like hanging space for robes + clothes and drawers for extra bathroom products.
